About the Author

Elizabeth Lambourn is Reader in South Asian and Indian Ocean Studies at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK. Her research is particularly focused on the identification and study of new material archives and on Indian Ocean materialities. Carol Symes is the Lynn M. Martin Professorial Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on the history of documentary practices and communication media in medieval Europe.
