About the Author

Anne Lambton was born in London in 1954, her father the Tory MP Lord Lambton, her mother the legendary hostess Belinda Blew-Jones. She and five siblings grew up at Lambton Park, Co. Durham surrounded by horses, dogs, lions, tigers and foxes kept as pets. Aged seventeen, she met Andy Warhol's partner Fred Hughes who took her off to New York to join the Factory where she filled the roles of court-jester and bodyguard to Warhol, meeting everyone from the Emperor of Japan to Lou Reed. Following a serious car crash and a spell back in England she found herself, aged twenty-six, staying at Leon Russell's house in Tulsa, Oklahoma. While working as a barmaid in a speakeasy in that dry state she met and fell in love with a cowboy. She moved in with him, sang and made t-shirts. But when the yearning to become an actress grew (as a child she had been spellbound by the accounts of her godmother Diana Cooper performing in The Miracle) she returned to London to become a drama student. She has worked in film, theatre and television on both sides of the Atlantic with some of the world's leading directors such as Stephen Frears ( Mrs Henderson Presents), Mike Figgis ( One Night Stand) , John Maybury ( Love is the Devil), Nicolas Roeg ( The Witches).

Reviews

'A voice that talks in many tongues, with wit and irony, but always with compassion' Ewan MorrisonIn over 40 years of reviewing I have been waiting for that 'A star is born' moment and I think it has now come...Anne Lambton's short stories - her first book - strike me as superfine quality; the emotional insight of Katherine Mansfield, the satirical edge of Angus Wilson...Lampton's mastery of language, her power when she chooses to unleash it, and her perfectly aimed humour. She also has a superb ear for dialogue...Expertly honed plots' 'Lambton is as good as beginnings as on endings - The Spectator
