Retired cattle rancher George Hatley had a passion for the Palouse and the horses named for it. A legend so revered among Appaloosa enthusiasts that he was nicknamed "Mr. Appaloosa," George became interested in the breed as a boy, when he learned that his great uncle had been involved in the Nez Perce war. Later, he was a founding member of the Appaloosa Horse Club, hosted the Palouse Hills Pony Club rally, and conducted scores of horse camping excursions.
Lewis Portnoy was a freelance photographer for the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals, the National Hockey League, and the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also worked for Anheuser-Busch, CBS, and NBC. He captured numerous sporting events on film, including rodeos, tennis, and women's golf.
"The book is considered a classic how-to manual. Hatley's practical advice and storytelling still shine."--Moscow-Pullman Daily News
