About the Author

Paul Pixler was a retired professor of philosophy at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and a former chairman of the San Juan Chapter of the Colorado Mountain Club. He divided his time between Durango and southern Arizona and was an avid hiker. John Peel has lived and hiked in Southwest Colorado since 1990. He has climbed more than half the state's Fourteeners but these days gets as much of a thrill out of a good Thirteener. And any day there's time for a hike is a good day. He lives with his wife, Judy, and dog in Durango.
