I moved to NZ in 1974 to take up work in an architectural design business. I eventually took over the business and looked for a way of differentiating my business. I dreamed of a house which would be ecologically acceptable, using only healthy materials, healthy processes and achieve an ambience of wellbeing. I had come up against off-gassing chemical synthetics like PVC and particle board. I had to avoid non-renewable petroleum products and poisonous aromatics like benzene, insecticides and fire rating substances, radio active gypsum and formaldehyde. I concluded that our homes were poisoning us. I stumbled on the vast array of electromagnetic radiation which is permeating the environment. I offered a service to inspect homes and workplaces for unhealthy environmental conditions including electromagnetic radiation. I discovered people feel unwell in their homes without knowing why. They suffer from a wide range of symptoms from headache through chronic fatigue syndrome to asthma and memory loss. After eliminating the paint and formaldehyde. the mould spores, the dust-mite faeces, I narrowed some cases down to the EM fields. The symptoms improved when we switched off all the electrical power. Our gadget ridden environment is producing a never ending stream of "radio" waves of all frequencies. I tracked some of it to code violation in the wiring. Some of the problems were caused by wiring installed according to code. Much of the radiation was in the 50 Hz frequency and harmonics. Gradually I built up a repertoire of situations which can cause extended radiation from wiring leading to sickness. Along with this I developed a toolkit of cures. I worked out what had to be done. When I thought I had all the sources tracked down and could correct them, the cellphone pandemic struck. Radiation began to enter the house from outside. People became exposed in their gardens and at the shops. In fact they walk around with a transmitter next to the skin. I had to expand my toolkit for measuring radiation. Then there was switch mode devices, like CFLs, cordless and wifi in the house complicating matters further. These were producing spikes, surges and harmonics in the cables and radiating them all over the house. The entire cable harness was radiating RF signals and radio frequency interference. After 38 years in this quest, it was time to show others that action can be taken and to write the book.
