Ian McCaskill joined the Met Office in 1961 and became a member of the BBC's forecasting team in October 1978. Apart from a break between 1983 and 1985, he stayed at the BBC until his retirement from the Met Office in 1998. He is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society.
