About the Author

Amy is a busy mom of four, and a passionate quilt designer and instructor. She loves mixing traditional piecing elements with bold modern fabrics, and says that for her, quilting feels like coloring- a crisp folded fat quarter is like a brand new crayon, fresh and full of possibility. Her work can be seen in The Denver Art Museum, Fat Quarterly Magazine, Australian Quilter's Companion Magazine, American Patchwork & Quilting, and she was nominated for 2014 Instructor of the Year by the International Association of Creative Arts Professionals. A seasoned Craftsy instructor, Amy is perhaps most well known for her 2012 Craftsy Block of the Month series. Truth be told, she's not quite sure how she manages to find time to sew at all, amidst homeschooling, home renovations, and endless mountains of laundry, but she's pretty sure the secret lies somewhere between an incredibly supportive husband, faith, and good coffee. You can follow along with Amy's adventures in sewing and motherhood on her blog, www.stitcherydickorydock.com.

Reviews

June 2016 The first section is a sound introduction to patchwork and quilting. It covers everything from choosing a machine to walking foot and free motion quilting. There are some unusal tips, e.g. using a thin line of washable school glue to secure seams instead of pins. The 16 projects cover many techniques including hexagons, foundation piecing and applique. There are playmats (one has small bean bags) bags, a book cover and a memory quilt of family photos. One quilt includes antique handkercheifs. It is a useful source book.

September 2015 This book has a real quality feel. The book is split into three chapters:A Patchwork Primer; Memory Makers and Memory Keepers. It's all about heirloom quilting - quilting with memories that last. You'll find all the basics covered plus tips, so you have all the information you need on making a quilt. This is a quilt journey of 'do you remember the day we went to..., or sat beneath the stars... as well as personal photo memory quilts. I like the Once Upon A Time quilted book keeper; the wigwam and the Jam-Packed bags. There's something for everyone who loves good memories. The instructions and photographs are clear and the book is easy to follow.

The projects in For Keeps aren’t about showing off fancy patchwork techniques – they’re
all about creating things you and your family will love to have in your home. Often this means something quite simple, but striking, like the English paper-pieced-then-appliquéd quilt on the
cover of the book, alongside clever ideas like a play quilt with a road for toy cars! With
11 quilts and six smaller keepsake projects, these designs are real crowd pleasers – and
we love the little ideas on how to make each one have special meaning to your family.
