About the Author

Richard Davies is The Economist's Economics Editor. Prior to The Economist, he worked at the Bank of England, where he managed a team of economists covering international economics. He was also a lead author of the Financial Stability Report, covering the stability of the banking sector. In 2008 he worked, on secondment, at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa. Richard began his career as a microeconomist, working in private sector consultancy and then at the UK Competition Commission. He studied economics at Oxford and the London School of Economics, and has held a lectureship at Lincoln College, Oxford, where he taught economics.
