I love this book...it has become my bible. Ok, initially it seems a bit radical but the results are amazing.
I started the program about 11 months ago, reached my desired weight and have maintained it for 9 months.
I now have a healthy diet, am keeping the weight off by just sticking to a couple of simple rules, one which is protein Thursday.
I reccomend this diet plan as a way to lose excess weight and to keep it off. Anyone going on this eating plan should have the book as it explains how and why things work.
As for being a fad diet no way..radical to begin with but once you reach your gaol you go back to eating normally all but for the protein Thursday. Fruit, bread dtc are all re introduced and wow two celebratery meals a week, can't ask for any more than that...Give it a go..

Book was delivered quickly and didn't disappoint. Comprehensive introduction to the Dukan Diet with good explanations and reasoning for how and why this diet works. I started this diet initially without the book and the plethora of information on the net means the book is t essential. But in saying that it is always handy to have the book to explain why you're doing something and to refer to it to confirm or answer any questions you may have. Would definitely recommend this book.

I would recommend this book to someone with more than 15kgs to lose, who is not particularly active. I would also advise to only stay on the Attack Phase for a few days and no more than 7. It is good diet in that you are not restricted as long as you eat within the categories, it helps to put your mind to rest as you can eat whenever you want. Although I am beginning to disagree more and more with the lack of carbohydrates, healthy fats, and restrictions of fruit and vegeatbles because you reduce your intake of essential minerals and nutrients. The hardest part of this diet apart from getting to whatever your goal weight is, is the third phase as it has the most to risk. Re-introducing old foods that your body (and mind) is not used to, at a point that your body will gain back the fat at a much higher rate is SCARY. One plus to Dukan is it will really make you understand how much you use oils and condiments (although after much research I believe extra virgin olive oil is best or vigin coconut oil to cook with as it is exposed to less chemical harm)), as well as teach you which meats have higher fat and which vegetables are carbohydrate rich. I have been on this diet for 2 months and lost almost 10kg. However I am very active and go to the gym almost everyday and I am constantly dizzy and have experience a lot fatigue and insomnia, and am concerned for muscle loss as opposed to fat loss. But while there was a lot of weight loss initially, it has slowed down to the point that there is no advantage of doing this diet over other diets that include proteins, carbs and fats in moderation. As far as exercising, I spoke to a doctor about walking and he very clearly said that walking is natural however will not do anything to change the shape of your body or create strength. I feel this diet would suit a heavily overweight person who would have to begin with walking.

In all honesty, there are too many rules with this one. I only needed to lose about 5kilos, and according to Dukan's website, being 5 foot 8 and 150 pounds currently (very healthy looking but not as skinny as in my modelling days) means that I am overweight? I found him recommending my weight (at 45 yrs old) to be the same as my modelling days and this is BEYOND ridiculous. What this man has copied are versions of the Protein Power book and the Zone diet and Atkins combined. However, I love fruit, and just am not willing to give it up. If you are really serious about eating normally LONG term -- read and keep the ZONE diet. It is timeless, and will keep you healthy. This guy is just making money off of theories that everyone else has already come up with, and reduced the concepts into being a fad diet. What the goal is -- is to be a healthy weight (NOT anorexic) and be able to maintain that. I prefer the Zone over this any day of the week.

Very detailed information, seems to be a reputable doctor and a very realistic, manageable diet.

I, sadly, have to agree with the other negative reviewer who posted here.
The recipes weren't that great and it sounds like just another crazy fad diet that will disappear along with all the rest (does anyone remember the 'bacon and banana' diet??). Too many ridiculous rules and not something you could stay on long-term. I found this book to be an absolute disappointment - I'm glad it was only $12.
I think I'll stick to my protein shake diet, thank you. Can't believe this nonsense actually works for people!

I love to book - really great. Though little bit strict for me in the beginning - but fantastic results. I missed my fruits - that was hard, but it is worth it to try it! It's written in a very good motivating way. Good luck anyone with your dieting and your healthy eating plan.

I read this and liked it because it was very clear what you could and couldn't eat and then gave you some recipes too to get you on track. For me, first 3 days were the protein only (Attack) days, then it went to protein+vege and protein alternating days until I get to my goal weight. I have been on it 8 days and lost 4.1kg so far and really enjoying being on it (although I do miss fruit). I have enjoyed seeing the scales get lower and lower every day so far. However, I am not obese so will only be on the part where certain food are forbidden (eg fats, sugars and fruit) for about a month or two before I can get back to eating anything (in moderation of course).
