About the Author

The author's medical career took him from Guy's Hospital to general practice in the Home Counties, on to a Royal Air Force short-service commission in the Far East, back to surgical partnerships in the UK and on to specialisation in aircrew testing at Gatwick. But this much travelled medic covered far more ground in his 'other life' as a prolific amateur racing driver, driven by his unquenchable passion for motorsport. Finally retired, he lives with his partner Marian in Warlingham, Surrey, but retains his link with motor racing as President of the Formula Junior Historic Racing Association and through his racing driver son Chris, who like his father also contrives to handle two 'day jobs', as chief test and development driver for McLaren Automotive and as manager of the Brazilian F1 driver Bruno Senna.

Reviews

" - .a rich picture of privateer life around Europe and the Far East, with amusing tales of earning a bonus for crossing the finish line backwards, or driving his F3 car into town when the van broke down - . It's clear that fun outweighed stress by a big margin" Gordon Cruickshank, Motorsport Magazine " - .an intriguing new book that deals with the life and career of Dr. Tony Goodwin, who by his own admission, wouldn't claim to be one of the world's greatest racing drivers - But this is a remarkable story all the same - - It charts his six decades of clubman Motorsport, in 21 countries across four continents, all while holding down a very busy medical career - . A good book." Total Kit Car Magazine "an absorbing read, packed with anecdotes, which recalls in fascinating detail the cars, people and places on the club racing scene and beyond right across the decades, from the fifties to the present day. " Speedscene Magazine " - Goodwin's work is a masterpiece - the best amateur racing book I've read" Marcus Pye, Autosport " - Tony Goodwin's lovely autobiography - not only entertaining but also records some crucial history - a real gem. Doug Nye, MotorSport " - should be read and on the bookshelves of both those who were around in earlier decades - and also younger aficionados who have been bitten by the motor racing bug." Ian Titchmarsh, BRDC Bulletin "BOOK OF THE MONTH" - this is a fine book and a fun look at racing that is far removed from most big-name biographies" Richard Heseltine, Octane " - a fascinating tale - it paints a picture of the times from a unique perspective" Carol Spagg, Historic Motor Racing News " - a quite amazing life in racing, and a pleasure to read - this is a book you should buy. I love it." Tony Cotton, Startline "It's a truly inspiring story that proves that where there's a will, there's a way." Grand Prix Legends
