About the Author

With extensive experience ranging from garden design to the formulation of parkland regeneration plans, Douglas Coltart has 15 years of garden and landscape design under his belt - in both private and public organizations. His company Viridarium, is celebrated for its imaginative and often large-scale gardening schemes with an innovative use of space and materials combined with subtle planting schemes. Douglas works closely with clients and communities to incorporate a contemporary feel to spaces large and small, urban or rural, at home or abroad, and has worked on projects at Glasgow Botanic Gardens and Scotland's National Garden, as well as many others. Douglas has lectured at organizations such as the National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens, the Royal Horticultural Society, and Britain in Bloom, and he regularly teaches at the Scottish Agricultural College where he set up Scotland's first nationally-validated design course. His work has been featured on TV shows such as the BBC's Small Town Gardens and Beechgrove Gardens. A recipient of two Royal Horticultural Society gold medals for designs at Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows, he often serves as a judge at national Horticultural Shows and The International Rose Trials in Glasgow. He lives in Scotland, and holds a BA (Hons) in Landscape Architecture and an MBA.
