About the Author

Captain Stephen worked his way through college by taking jobs on local charter fishing boats. Though he earned a degree in Applied Mathematics, what he retained most from his early years is a passion for fishing. He went on to earn a Masters license from the U.S. Coast Guard, and to run charters on a part time basis. He's a strong believer in "Catch & Release" and frequently tags the fish he catches for the American Littoral Society. Stephen has over 35 years of experience fishing saltwater. Over the years he's been fortunate enough to have worked with some excellent captains who shared their wealth of knowledge with him. In turn, Steve enjoys passing on his own fishing expertise, and he has done so since the 1980's, publishing tips and his experiences in numerous articles in local fishing magazines. As Stephen's first book, Catching with Umbrealls gets him deeper into the subject of fishing these rigs more effectively. Stephen migrated from western Massachusetts to Rhode Island in the 1980's to be near the ocean and lives in Narragansett RI today with his children.
