About the Author

Ray Rivas began his career working on game shows for the late Merv Griffin. It took 6 years for Mr. Rivas to evolve from teaching physiology at a high school in New Jersey, to a directing in Hollywood, California. From the Merv Griffin Company, to being an agent for TV directors, to vice president at Grey Advertising - 3 jobs, 2 years each - and he found himself standing on a sound stage. When asked how a teacher of physiology could make a 180° turn around to the movie business, he responded, "Easy, they are both an analytical craft and the approach is the same." Mr. Rivas evolved into a complete cineaste, writing, producing and directing all forms of films. As a director, he has directed TV commercials, Educational Films, Documentaries, Feature Films, Infomercials, Industrial Films and Music Videos. What he writes about directing comes from years of experience in all types of moving pictures. As a Producer, Ray started out producing at the ad agency in New York, then when he established Rivas Film Associates and Rayo Associates (the Spanish language division), and then Rivcam, the equipment rental company. As a writer he penned his first Screenplay, "El Monosabio" The Wise Monkey, then directed it in Spain thourgh IMAN FILMS. He was the first American director to direct a film in foreign language since Raul Walsh directed a French film in 1937! Mr. Rivas has filmed in most every major capitol in the United States, Europe, South America and finally Mexico where he currently lives with his wife Elsa.
