About the Author

Joe Poindexter, a native of Oklahoma, graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma. Three years later, he graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma State University with a master's degree in public school administration. After serving as teacher, coach, and school administrator in Oklahoma for thirty years, Joe retired and moved to Arkansas, where he finished another degree in history. He taught ten more years at National Park Community College, Hot Springs, Arkansas. There he taught several history courses. Joe, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, is president of Hot Springs Village Civil War Roundtable. He frequently makes presentations to the Civil War Roundtable and to local clubs, organizations, and public schools. Joe is also active in church, where he is a deacon and teaches a Sunday school class. He is also a chaplain at Samaritan Ministries, a homeless shelter for men located in Hot Springs, and he is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Joe's first book, "A Divided State," published in 2014 by Freeze Time Media, describes the situation in Arkansas during the Civil War. It includes a factual account of the Battle of Pea Ridge, the largest Civil War battle fought west of the Mississippi River.
