About the Author

Dr. Ribner is a clinical psychologist with over 35 years of experience assisting children, adolescents and adults with behavioral, emotional and relationship difficulties. He dedicated the first 16 years of his career to treating individuals impacted by child sexual abuse. Since then, Dr. Ribner has focused on his passion and special interest in learning and child development, with the goal of helping others learn the skills needed to work at the levels at which they are truly capable. A portion of Dr. Ribner's practice is dedicated to evaluating and treating attention disorders in children, teens and adults. On a more personal level, Dr. Ribner has been married for 37 years to a woman who, as a Social Worker and Attorney, has dedicated much of her professional life to protecting children. He and his wife have two children, a daughter age 32, a Pediatric Physical Therapist working at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, and a son, age 24, currently working on his Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at N.Y.U. in New York. Carey Averill is a doctoral candidate at the George Washington University studying Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. She holds a Bachelors in Education from Purdue University and a Masters in School Counseling from Campbell University. With numerous certifications, her passion for math and love of middle school has lead her to teach 6th grade mathematics, pre-algebra and high school Algebra for the Richmond Diocese of Catholic Schools at St. John the Apostle in Virginia Beach. Previous experience includes teaching for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in numerous states as well as abroad to include Korea, Germany, and Fort Bragg, NC. With such diverse opportunities, Carey has worked with varying age groups all over the globe. Her goal is to empower both students and teachers in order to find success both academically as well as in individual endeavors. Susan Van Zanten has been in the field of education since 1983. As a second grade teacher for the Pasadena City Schools she was responsible for implementing new strategies to the GATE program. After raising her children and completing graduate school, Susan returned to the classroom with a deeper sense of individualized education and a better understanding of how best to meet the needs of the diverse student. Susan obtained a BA in Liberal Arts at Point Loma Nazarene University and an MA in Education, Digital Teaching and Learning from Azusa Pacific University CA teaching credential, Multiple Subject CA teaching credential, Special Education.
